GUI Designer

Position Title: GUI Designer

Job description: A strong and passionate GUI designer that can lead and pioneer requirements for a SaaS financial management system, servicing Africa, Asia and Latin America.

Typical work activities:
- Work with our Product and Engineering team to lead design and UI development for our growing products;
- Lead UI development across the web, mobile and other product delivery channels;
- Build reusable front-end abstractions and frameworks;
- Define and document the UI implementation guidelines and functional requirements;
- Audit products to enforce UX cohesion and clarity;
- Design the overall branding and look & feel for our products;
- Observe customer feedback and usability assessment to optimise GUI;
- Design additional online (and occasionally offline) properties;
- Insure these is a coherent synergy will all branded material; 
- Creating demos, mockups, and concepts;
- Articulating design concepts effectively to both internal and external audiences;
- Participating in and leading group ideation and collaborative design sessions;
- Keeping abreast of the latest design trends;
- Help facilitate user interviews, field research, focus groups, and usability tests to ensure that user input is gathered and informs the design throughout the product lifecycle.
- Carrying out specific projects and research;
- Attending conferences and training.

Skills and personal attributes:
- Well-versed in visual design and interactive design principles;
- Ability to visualise, own, and execute the creation of an experience from initial concept to collaborating with engineers on implementation;
- Experience working with Business Analysts and Subject Matter Experts in a User Experience product development lifecycle;
- Experience with Agile development methodologies;
- Experience with JIRA or similar tool for tracking software requirements, changes and releases;
- Experience with Confluence (web-based corporate Wikis) to organise, maintain and communicate UI implementation guidelines and functional requirements;
- Prior experience designing multiple browser based software applications as well as smartphone and tablet apps that have shipped (not just concepts);
- A keen eye for producing clean, semantic markup;
- Ability to create well-abstracted, reusable UI components;
- Capable of rendering gorgeous visuals – buttons and textures to form elements and UI components;
- Highly competent with the Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop and Illustrator in particular)
- Expert eye for detail and pixel perfection; no detail is too small or insignificant!
- Comfortable with an iterative design process that includes accepting and managing feedback and constructive criticism;
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently on multiple projects simultaneously;
- Passion for elegant and intuitive user interfaces;
- Experience with Webkit, HTML5.
- Expert in web technologies (HTML/CSS/JS, jQuery);
- Expert knowledge of design tools such as Photoshop and Illustrator;
- Obsessed with creating pixel-perfect implementations in all browsers;
- Thrives in a fast-paced product development environment;
- A strong online portfolio, demonstrating UI/UX design and clean markup/styles.

Qualifications and training required
- 2 or more commercial years experience.
- Degrees are a plus.
