Company description
Our client is a USA based company, creator of the largest online basketball manager game in the world. In the three years since their public release, they have attracted over 55,000 long‐term subscribers from around the world. They pride themselves on having the most complex and most accurate basketball simulation found on the Internet. 

Their online basketball manager game is a browser‐based game developed in ASP.NET with a VB back‐end and a Microsoft SQL Server 2005 database. In addition, they have several computationally‐intensive modules written in C++ that populate the game data.

This offer is an exciting opportunity to join a growing, financially self‐sustained, international start‐up company.

The Role
You will be responsible for developing and maintaining a set of computationally‐intensive modules. Each module interacts with the database and website to varying degrees, so the candidate must be able to work effectively in a team with the database administrator and web developers.

These modules include, for example, the game engine (which processes all of the matches), league standings updates, the round‐robin match scheduler, the game economy update, and many others. These modules are all called by several process daemons that our client has developed.

Part of their plan for the next year is to develop a second version of the game that may involve substantially modifying or rewriting several of these modules. You would be working closely with the database administrator and web developers as the C++ code is developed.

As several of the modules are very computationally‐intensive, designing for efficiency is necessary in many cases.

Longer term, you would be expected to take an active role in the design and development of the game website, though the addition and implementation of new features, bug‐fixes, and regular page maintenance.

Required Knowledge and Qualifications
- 5+ years’ professional experience working with C++
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science or a related field
-  Ability and willingness to learn new programming languages quickly
- Strong sense of responsibility and accountability
- Strong communication skills in English, both written and spoken

Additional Desired Skills (in order of importance)
- Experience with ASP.NET and HTML
- In‐depth knowledge of and passion for sports, especially basketball
- Experience with C#
- Experience with SQL
- Experience with Flash
- Experience with Photoshop
