Our client is a USA based company, creator of the largest online basketball manager game in the world. In the three years since their public release, they have attracted over 55,000 long-term subscribers from around the world. They pride themselves on having the most complex and most accurate basketball simulation found on the Internet.

Their online basketball manager game is a browser-based game developed in ASP.NET with a VB back-end and a Microsoft SQL Server 2005 database. In addition, they have several computationally-intensive modules written in C++ that populate the game data.

The Role
You will be responsible for maintaining and developing game’s MSSQL database. Our client has a growing community that is continually adding new users, and so they are creating new data very quickly. As a result, there will be scaling issues that need to be solved on a semi-regular basis.

Most of the database work is expected to be preventative maintenance that happens during regular hours. As with any database administrator role, however, if for any reason the database is making any functionality on the site very slow or inaccessible, it is expected that you will be reachable and available to fix the problems very urgently.

In addition, you will work with other developers on the team developing new features and games, to build the data structures and interfaces to those structures that are needed.

Required Knowledge and Qualifications:
- 5+ years’ professional experience working with Microsoft SQL Server
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science or a closely related field
- Ability and willingness to learn new programming languages quickly
- Strong sense of responsibility and accountability
- Strong communication skills in English, both written and spoken

Additional Desired Skills (in order of importance):
- Experience with ASP.NET and HTML
- Experience with C++
- In-depth knowledge of and passion for sports, especially basketball
- Experience with Flash
- Experience with Photoshop
- Experience with C#
